Deux Amies |
| Comments: |
"Deux Amies" laying in each others arms drawn in pencil by the first Female cubist . Maria Vorobieva (1892-1984) also known as Marevna (after a fairy sea princess). She was the first woman to discover cubism; a painter who achieved in her work a remarkable blend of pointillism and structure; a charming, high-spirited, though sometimes audacious, person. The daugther of a Polish Nobleman, she studied in Moscow before moving to Paris in 1912. She wrote a book called "Life with the Painters of La Ruche" about life with her friends Picasso, Braque, Chagall, Modigliani, Diego Rivera, Matisse, Gorki, and Jean Cocteau. Her work is exhibited in many galleries, including the Guggenheim in New York ( in which her work was presented in a special Neo Impressionsit Exhibition in 1968) and the Modern Art Foundation in Geneva. |
